Message from your Chairman

Dear Members,

OAS 125th anniversary

As our 125th anniversary year comes to a close. We are looking to the future. As you know we have been exhibiting in and around Oxford since 1891 and we are very proud of this achievement. Over the years we have had many famous artists, both as members and as exhibitors such as Sir Edward Burne-Jones, Gilbert Spencer, John Piper, Paul Nash to name just a few. We have kept to the principles that were first established in 1891 and this has given us a reputation of high quality exhibitions filled with high quality works of art. Many of our past members have works in the Ashmolean Collection.

We had a successful open exhibition in September at SJE Arts on the Iffley Road and our New Artist Competition inviting artists between the ages of 18-35 to exhibit with us. The competition, by the way, was won by Arthur Laidlaw. We are now looking forward to our Members Exhibition in February at the Town Hall.

Before that though we have been invited by St Hugh’s College to celebrate with them (they are 100 years old this year) with an exhibition of members work on display throughout the college during their anniversary celebrations in October.

I hope all our members have had a good year and we look forward to you exhibiting with us in 2017.

Best wishes
Peter Farley
Chair
