Eagle, Harriet

Having studied Fine Art at university in South Africa, and followed a career as a graphic designer in Oxford, it has been a joy to return to the paintbrush and canvas more seriously.

My approach to painting is largely intuitive. Initially time is spent on more considered compositional drawings of scenes or things that inspire me. This is followed by preparing the paints in harmonious pools of colours. I then approach my subject, layering and scraping back the paint more freely in an attempt to express and capture the delight of my subject whilst my aim underlying the energy is to create a stillness, or ‘silence‘ in the finished piece.

I am drawn to the landscape, especially the sea, spending as much time as possible in Cornwall where the light and natural beauty provide a wealth of inspiration.
