Strother, Jane

January 2017

The paintings in this collection are examples of my continued interest in landscape painting, all made in the last year. The main focus in my work is on evoking a feeling of space in landscape and detail which goes somewhere to indicating the place or habitat.
The Rookery series is yet unfinished. I have been working on oils on canvas and charcoal and oil studies hoping to marry the narrative with an abstract interest in the form of a painting, the framework and its nuts and bolts.
The Beaumont Quay studies and a way of working out the ‘story’ and thinking through what should be taken from this to make the as yet unfinished oils (come sand see them at Artweeks this year!)
I am teaching a two day workshop in my studio in April, ‘Experimenting with Abstraction through Drawing’ one place remains. I don’t find this easy myself and am interested in unpicking ways of seeing and working to develop this aim. Contact me for details.

After several successful workshops in October – ‘Kitchen Sink Lithography’ and Drypoint Etching with Chine Colle for beginners, I am repeating both. Winter Glasshouse is a mixed media monoprint using collagraph, chine colle and blockprinting.
