Karina Tarin

Karina Tarin is a figurative artist based in Oxford, where she works from her garden studio, painting in oils.

Her work is a celebration of resilience, beauty and the magic that is an intangible part of our everyday lives.

Karina is drawn to the age-old stories that are told to make sense of life and the powerful natural world around us – the myths, fables, folklore and symbolism that are woven into our collective understanding of the world and our place in it.

In her paintings she re-claims or re-writes these ancient myths, or uses their rich symbolism to weave brand new stories. She is particularly interested in creating narratives that re-balance power and re-claim joy: an antidote to fear and loathing and a call to freedom and wonder.

Karina is largely self-taught, but bring influences from her psychology degree, her short time at the Académie des Beaux Artes in Grasse, her love of colour and opulence, and her longstanding fascination with medieval and Renaissance art.
