Wendy Newhofer

I make kilnformed glass in my Oxford studio.  My working process involves layering clear float glass with metal leaf, foil and wire.  When these materials are fired in the kiln the glass fuses to the metals to produce expressive glass pieces which have an organic painterly quality to them.

These inclusions of precious metal leaf and wire enable me to ‘draw’ within the glass and create a palette of subtle colours once fired.  Natural forms have always been a strong vehicle for these techniques and my work is also informed by an attraction to designs incorporating repetition and pattern.
