Profile picture

I am a landscape and seascape painter often painting in Wales, N. W. Scotland and Cornwall but also in the many nature reserves, wetlands, open spaces and woodlands of Oxfordshire. I showed 55 paintings of wild places in the UK  at the Northwall Arts Centre in Oxford Nov 2019- Jan 2020 in an exhibition entitled 'Wildsong'. For this exhibition I spent much time painting in the Oxfordshire BBOWT and Earthtrust reserves especially the Thames wetlands. I hope to sketch and paint the Thames  and its tributaries as well as other BBOWT reserves in the future and was working towards a solo show at West Oxfordshire Arts in Bampton which was sadly cancelled due to Covid. This will be rescheduled next year. .

I use oils, cold wax, pastels and acrylics and  I try to paint outside in situ as much as possible as this allows me to be more intuitive and emotional and capture fleeting moments.I aim to paint how the landscape makes me feel rather than just what I see and often find myself nestled amongst the undergrowth with my easel trying to capture the last light of day..It is important to me  that one feels the sense of day, the weather and the light in my work and I often paint fast and on a large scale. I love the natural world and if through my paintings I can encourage people to appreciate and protect it more than I feel it is all worthwhile.

I was awarded the Mary Moser prize and exhibit widely including at the Iona House gallery in Woodstock and the Wykeham gallery in Stockbridge.

Jane is happy to accept commissions.
