I take inspiration from the natural world, the creatures and people who inhabit it, and the stories they have to tell. I print because I love the process of taking something that inspires, excites, or moves me, and expressing it in my own way through line, tone, shape and colour. I love the process of crafting something by hand and the energy and sense of connection it brings.
After leaving school, I completed an art foundation at Oxford Brookes University. I then went on to study Graphic Communications at Bath Spa University – this involved a combination of graphic design and illustration. I leant very much toward the side of illustration, and spent most of my time in the printmaking workshop.
When I left university, I worked on building up my portfolio and aimed to start taking illustration commissions. I found a part-time job as a nanny to support me alongside this. I spent the best part of a year experimenting with styles and techniques to build on my portfolio, and then started taking on commissions - I worked with several refugee charities, poets, and research groups - making illustrations and animations.
In 2020 I steered away from commissioned illustration work in favour of producing my own artwork, feeling a need for greater agency and creativity. I returned to my love of printmaking, in particular linoprint and monoprint. I set up my online shop and started taking part in exhibitions and craft fairs – which I continue to do today.
Lizzie is happy to accept commissions.
