My main interest is portrait painting in oils, from life and/or photographs. I have studied anatomy and dissection, and for me the human form is a subject like no other. I aim to create a strongly recognizable image with emotional depth and intensity, paying special attention to colour and tone. I also like painting animals and natural forms, sometimes taking a painting right up to the borders of the abstract. I have a degree in Classics from Cambridge, a second MB in medicine from Bristol and I am also a published and prize-winning poet.
